Product Description
It's fairly safe to say that there's no greater name than Tom Clancy when it comes to tactical first-person shooters. Originally starting out on the PC, the Rainbow Six series and its associated games are now pretty much cross-platform, with this latest instalment released for the Xbox, complete with support for Xbox Live. As usual, the game involves you commanding an elite, multinational squad of special operatives against a hidden terrorist foe. As the story goes, it's the year 2007 and the world is on the brink of a terrifying global conflict. As the United States is caught in an embargo-induced oil crisis, terrorist attacks against American interests escalate. Venezuela, which still supplies the United States with oil, also becomes a target. As unrest grows in America, protests rock the streets of Caracas, and while the shadow of terror looms, madmen plot even greater acts of murder and destruction. This is where you come in - along with the super-cool Team Rainbow, some of the most sophisticated technology available, and a fair amount of stealth and shooting skill. There are 14 missions in total, as you endeavour to put an end to the terrorism, taking you to such locations as London, the Cayman Islands and Rio de Janeiro. Holding everything together is an immersive storyline with events that directly affect gameplay, as well as a wealth of Hollywood-style cinematics, directed by Marco Brambilla of Demolition Man fame. As you'd expect, a healthy arsenal of over 30 weapons is available throughout - vital in the completion of each task - including a massive variety of sub machine guns, assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, as well as grenades, charges, mines, and tear gas. Taking full advantage of Xbox Live, and thus focusing on one of the most notable aspects of the series, Rainbow Six 3 has a strong multiplayer support. Up to 16 players can battle it out online, across a wide variety of game modes, including survival, team survival and co-operative. As well as this, you can also make use of your Xbox Live headset in the single player game and shout out voice commands to your three AI teammates. Rainbow Six has long been an established game for the more serious FPS fanatic. This latest instalment continues the tradition, and also offers some welcome new additions to the proceedings.
